Legal & Policy Framework

Since independence, the Namibian government has pursued free-market economic principles with a view to attracting foreign direct investment. The liberal Foreign Investment Act of 1993 provides for freedom from nationalization, freedom to remit capital and profits, currency convertibility, and a process for settling disputes equitably. Key provisions of the Foreign Investment Act include:

Equal treatment of local and foreign investors Full protection of investment No prescription of local participation Repatriation of profits Granting of Certificate of Status Investment (CSI)
